Mak Remissa

Preview

Born in Cambodia in 1970, Mak Remissa became in the nineties the most promising photographers of his generation. With a diploma from the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, he became famous with the series Fish and Ants and Water is Life, shown in Cambodia and all over the world.

In 2012, Mak Remissa is again interested in environment with the project Flamed Forest, where he shows the devastating relationship between nature and men. In his sometimes mysterious pictures, forests and trees – normally a guarantee for biodiversity – disappear in the devastating flames, a symbol of the destruction by mankind. Between lyrical abstraction and symbolic representation, Flamed Forest is an ode to nature. At the same time it is a warning for all those, obsessed with development who could forget to include nature in their vision of the future.
