Micheline Dullin

Preview

Born in Paris in 1927, Micheline Dullin is first of all a great traveler. On a trip to Cambodia, she got hired by the King Nordodom Sihanouk as his official photographer between 1958 and 1964. During that time and many years later, she documented this country she loves for the diversity of its architecture, landscapes and people.

In the sixties, she deliberately pictured in positive way wharfs and construction works in Phnom Penh: the so called `Japanese` bridge, the Olympic Stadium, the Suramarit Theater – two buildings designed by the architect Van Molyvann. In mainly black and white square format and always with her Rolleiflex, she makes impressive sky views. Witness of a prosperous period, she shows the image of a capital that does not expect at all the coup d’état, war and dictatorship that will devastate the country during the following years.

Besides her officially ordered series on Phnom Penh, MichelineDullin brought back a lot of pictures from her trips through the provinces; from Ratanakiri she shows us unreleased and striking daily scenes and faces.
