The Anders Petersen exhibition at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France is wonderful. It was curated by Anne Biroleau, one of the greatest curators working in contemporary photography. We have asked her to put together this special day for which we thank her.

A long conversation recently published between Anders Petersen and Christian Caujolle offers many keys to understanding the artist’s work. But above all it sheds light on his perception of the world and his “approach” to it. A world which he reconstructs in his books and exhibitions. Their layout should not be seen as a permanent form, but as the temporary map of a territory in perpetual transformation. Petersen would probably have little patience for our attempts to “classify” his work and identify its “themes,” but he himself admits that, “when you look at the work of a photographer, you must see it as a whole, the tendencies, the link between the beginning and the end.” (p. 76)
