Toronto Contact 2014

Preview

Since 2009, the photographer Rob Hornstra has collaborated with the journalist Arnold van Bruggen on The Sochi Project. Over the course of five years, they visited the region which hosted the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

This seaside town in the Caucasus has been transformed by the construction of infrastructures and hotel complexes designed for the event. Near  conflict zones, this destination prized by Russian vacationers has a particular climate. With videos and interviews, the work features an interesting documentary and offers the perspective of locals on a provocative political decision.

Rob Hornstra was awarded a World Press Photo Award in 2012 for his series The Sochi Project: Sochi Singers. He is the founder of Fotodok, a space for documentary photography. He is represented by the Flatland Gallery and the Institute for Artist Management.
