Marie Benattar at the Atelier Yann Arthus-Bertrand

Preview

The Atelier Yann Arthus-Bertrand in Paris opened in July 2013. He occasionally exhibits the work of his favorite photographers, and for the Month of Photography 2014, Arthus-Bertrand is featuring the work of the young photographer Marie Benattar.

Born on Reunion island in 1984, Benattar spent her early years between her native island, Paris and Tahiti. In 2003 she went to live with her mother in Bali, where she enrolled in arts school, learning the local carving techniques and traditional design. Time spent with young Indonesian artists led her to pursuit painting and, eventually, photography at the EFET school of photography. She won the Prix Marc Grosset in 2010 and, a year later, served as Paolo Roversi’s assistant for a campaign in Italian Vogue and exhibited at the Promenades Photographiques de Vendôme. She then spent two years in Turkey, where she shot the series La Valse Turque and Des nouvelles de Venus. In 2013, she returned to Paris and was awarded the 2013 Bourse de Talent in the Fashion category.
