In October 2012, while preparing for my next trip to America, on a map I spotted a town called Truth or Consequences. Never in my many years of exploring the United States had the name of a town intrigued me more.

The name Truth or Consequences comes from a popular 1950s radio quiz show. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the show, host Ralph Edwards promised to record a special edition in any town that would be willing to change its name to the program’s. Formerly Apache territory on the Rio Grande, the spa town of Hot Springs, New Mexico, rose to the occasion and has been known since as Truth or Consequences.

The name alone was enough to give it a sense of mystery. It sounded like a religious command, or some classic Hollywood comedy. Seized by the metaphorical power of the expression “Truth or Consequences,” I decided that the town would become an important stop on my journey. I spent enough there time to investigate the city and provide a sensory and intimate vision of it. During my exploration, I experimented with two elements I had never used in my work: writing and sound. The combination of these three media gave a new dimension to my visual quest.
