Paris: #JeSuisCharlie by Haytham Pictures Agency

Preview

That day, photographers from the Haytham Pictures Agency also mobilized for the Republican march organized in Paris, setting up two photo studios in the street near the Place de la République, and managing to take over a hundred portraits of the demonstrators within a few hours. That was on January 11th, 2015. In response to the attacks against the editors of Charlie Hebdo, nearly 4 million demonstrators marched in France in defense of the freedom of the press and the freedom of expression. A few words was all it took to bring out  millions of people regardless of their politics: Je suis Charlie.

Gilles Collignon, co-founder of Haytham Pictures: “This march belonged to the citizens, but we knew that one way or the other, politicians were going to make it their own. By setting up a studio in the street, we wanted to isolate and capture these anonymous faces and bear witness to their presence. It was a way to embody the words of the citizens.

#JeSuisCharlie is a project realized by the photographers : Hugo Aymar, Moland Fengkov, Simon Lambert, Augustin Le Gall, Anthony Micallef, Laurent Paillier, Juliette Robert, Olivier Saint-Hilaire, Milan Szypura, Perre Vassal and the participation of Hedi Aouidj. And the staff: Gilles Collignon, Christian Sauvan-Magnet, Léonor Matet.

Haytham Pictures is a Paris-based photo-agency of young photographers, covering news and documenting social issues. Haytham Pictures offers a wide range of productions because photographers of the agency are photojournalists or authors free to produce news, stories or documentary according to their own and personal style.
Photographers of Haytham Pictures strongly believe that they are here to deliver information and stories, as honestly as possible, with a camera or a microphone.
Photographers of Haytham Pictures are not just photographers; they are members, part of the administrative structure of the agency and participate in the strategic decisions process. Haytham Pictures has also its own printing department allowing its photographers to organize and manage their exhibitions.
Haytham Pictures is convinced that photojournalism is not dead.
