Sabine Pigalle : New Series, NightWatch

Preview
Sabine Pigalle’s new series ‘Night Watch’ falls within the pictorialism movement and takes a wink at Rembrandt’s masterpiece “The Night Watch” employing quotes from classic paintings such as “Night” by Michelangelo, Giorgione’s, “Sleeping Venus” and references of staged nudes from Cranach, Durer etc. Pigalle’s ‘Night Watch’ is a reflection of the allegorical dreams of such epiphanies.

Sabine Pigalle is a visual artist. She was born in France in 1963. Most of her work concentrates on the reinterpretation of myths. Religious history, mythology, Flemish primitive painting and also mannerism provide both the varied sources of her inspiration and the raw materials for artistic explorations. Sabine Pigalle produces hybrid photographs in different series, mainly dedicated to the art of portraiture, that combine the contemporary with references to ancient art.
