Until the ’60s, South Korea was almost a mediaeval country, poor and underdeveloped. After just 40 years, South Korea is now one of the most advanced countries in the world.
In 2015 I crossed the country, starting from Seoul, reaching the Northern border and then heading towards the extreme South-East until Busan and then coming back through the Western territory.
“Made in Korea” sums up the transformations that the people and the country have faced by running towards modernity, industrial and technological progress and by fostering an unbearable sense of competition, embodied in aesthetical, educational and professional perfection. An obsession that causes collateral effects such as stress, alcoholism, social isolation and, in some cases, suicide.
