Saint-Petersburg : Yury Gudkov, Keep an Eye on What You See

Preview

The continuous process of taking pictures of everyday life engenders the documentation of ambiguous rituals. It becomes impossible to give back the original duration and meaning . In a sequence of images, the captured scene becomes autonomous and looped so it can’t be recognized as part of the personal experience of seeing. The strange units that were put together form unexpected interactions with various forms, objects, phenomena. The processus allows thinking about whole of the visible ,and  about the inability to ignore perception as such.

This project takes us back to the unsolvable situation of continuous contemplation associated to the process of monotonous surveillance.  My thoughts came from the idea that any experience is inevitable. This allowed me to evoke  the simple act of looking that brings unexpected results: the discovery that the vision depends of the visible.
