Following the completion of several photography projects on the human being, I took several retreats to Cistercian monasteries. In these isolated religious communities, monks retire behind cloisters in order to devote themselves entirely to God.
By adopting the methods of documentary photography, I wanted to not only bear witness to their spiritual journeys, but also to sketch out the contours of surpassing one’s physical self. The process is a personal experience born of a desire to understand, to share, to photograph these silent places, to capture in colors this inner evolution.
