‘You’ is a series of self-portraits dealing with the notion of privacy, social and personal taboos and the need to free ourselves from restrictions of any kind. Each photo in the series represents a certain stage of evolution of finding oneself and reaching a state of freedom and self awareness. The process of making self-portraits for me is a way to face myself, overcome obstacles, issues, fears, and finally allow new opportunities to surface. Tanya Traboulsi is an Austrian-born Lebanese photographer who spent her childhood travelling back and forth between the two countries. Her work has been exhibited internationally in both solo and group shows, and her photographs have appeared in several notable prints such as AD France, Brownbook, Chicago Tribune, Colors Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Monocle, The Observer, The Wire and others. Her body of work documenting the Lebanese alternative music scene was assembled in the 2010 publication ‘Untitled Tracks: On Alternative Music in Beirut‘.
