On dirait le Sud
France, written by Bernard Perrine
Coproduced by La Filature, Scène Nationale de Mulhouse, the Bernard Plossu exhibition On dirait le sud (Looks Like the South) will be on display at the Galerie de la Filature from January 8 to March 2, 2014.
with 120 photographs, the exhibition explores Southern Europe as seen by train in the far and recent past, in black-and-white and in color. “In photography, time is not captured, but evoked. It flows like fine sand, endlessly. The changing landscapes change nothing.”
We see Barcelona in 1974, several photographs of Spain (where the photographer lived for many years), Italy, Portugal and, of course, the south of France, where Plossu shot his innovative series from a bus crossing Marseille.
Most of the photographs on display are black-and-white silver prints in the photographer’s favorite format: 18x24cm and 24x30cm. There are also thirteen color Fresson prints made especially for this exhibition, a few inkjet prints (the photographs of Valencia), and contact sheets.
