Raymond Depardon, Guest Editor of Réponses Photo
France, written by Bernard Perrine
In photography and other media, we’re used to seeing big names agree to edit a single issue of a publication. They usually just lend their names to the project and take their ideas from the editor-in-chief.
This wasn’t the case when Raymond Depardon agreed to edit an issue of Réponses Photo. He made himself available despite his busy schedule and was enthusiastic from the beginning, says editor-in-chief Sylvie Hughes.
Depardon got involved with the selection of the portfolios, and commented on his recent exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris. He also brought two shopping bags filled with what he considers to be essential photography books, including works by Walker Evans, Paul Strand, Luigi Ghirri and Berengo Gardin.
“He thanked us on his way out,” said Hughes. “But we should have been thanking him a thousand times over.”
