Brussels: Albert Watson

Preview

Silver Linings, the Albert Watson exhibition at the Young Gallery in Brussels, features film prints of some of the photographer’s favorite pictures, as well as some of his classic work in fashion, beauty and portraiture.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Albert Watson studied graphic design at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, and film and broadcasting at the Royal College of Art in London. Although he has been blind in one eye since birth, he decided to add photography classes to his curriculum. In 1970, he moved to the United States with his wife, Elizabeth, who had found work as an elementary school teacher in Los Angeles, where Albert began taking pictures in his spare time. A little later that year, Watson met the artistic director of Max Factor, who offered him his first photo shoot, ultimately purchasing two of the resulting photographs, and Watson’s particular style went on to attract the interest of American and European fashion magazines like Mademoiselle,GQ and Harper’s Bazaar.
