A photographer working in South Africa, Roger Ballen does not photograph with light. Instead, he draws with shadows. Rather than discuss the pictures he never took, he talks instead about the strange alchemy of the act of photography.
His book, Asylum of the Birds, was shot in the slums of Johannesburg where the pigeons live among the inhabitants. An exhibition took place in 2014 at the Interactive Museum of Photography in Châlon-sur-Saône, France.
