Pupa Neumann : Daydream

Preview

The Big Gallery is a fledgling gallery based in the village of Saint Paul in Paris, that inaugurated Pupa Neumann’s “Daydream” photographic exhibition last week. The works will be visible until January 16th, 2016, and are introduced by a text by the singer Arthur H, which follows.

Women…
Beautiful and enigmatic women.
That come from nowhere.
Exiled in a world that does not recognize them.
Are they beautiful Ukrainian brides married online to wealthy and impotent farmers in Minnesota?
Or elegant Bulgarians lost in the depths of the Beauce to escape a tragic fate?

No, to me, they rather evoke the lost souls of the near future. Temporal accident. Looking for a vanished joy, a purely melancholic joy, a purely elusive joy. They bring from their vanished world an aura of perfection, a sophisticated sense of chromatic harmony, a supernatural levity, a grace too sensitive for the brutal epoch where they’ve landed. In addition, to their great surprise, their principal discovery is absence.

Pupa Neumann’s images plunge us into a waking dream, between horror and marvel, sadness and levity, emptiness and energy. Women of the future …
