Paris : Kate Barry, Photographs

Preview

In September 2013, Anne-Dominique Toussaint opened the Galerie Cinema with Point of View, the first retrospective of the photographer Kate Barry’s work. Since the artist’s death two years ago, her son Roman de Kermadec has continued to put her work in the spotlight. From February 5 to March 12, the Galerie Cinema is thus holding a new exhibition of the artist who “is like no other,” as the gallery owner Agathe Gaillard aptly described her.

A British national, Kate Barry began her career as a photographer at the age of 28. Self-taught, over the years she built an intimate, delicate body of work. A selection of exclusive photos from the series Wild Grass, her still lifes, and the series Les Gueules de Rungis, on display throughout this month-long exhibition, showcases poetic mises-en-scène revealing the artist’s versatility.

The exhibition Photographies is also an occasion to rediscover the famous series Actrices, which resonates with the exhibition organized by the Institut Français at the Lincoln Center in New York, which opened on January 29th, 2016.
