Paris: Bar Floréal. One evening, I sat beauty on my knees

Preview

After 30 years of accomplishments going well beyond the realm of photography, Bar Floréal closed its doors for good in 2015.

Now, to celebrate the bar’s unusual history, a major exhibition has been composed in the style a multi-layered song, offering shared visions and critical views of the (often sorry) state of the world, from the frozen waters of selfish calculations to warm winds charged with gentle fragrances.

Here the question is of beauty and bliss, dreams and utopias (and, of course, the next line of Rimbaud’s text: “And I found her bitter. And I insulted her.”).

The exhibition illustrates the history of Bar Floréal*, putting special focus on the projects of the photographers who contributed for the last ten years of the collective’s venture.

It is enhanced by works from artists who exhibited in its gallery and emphasises the importance of graphic style in the diversity of its activities and its books.

Ultimately, it is an exhibition where urgency and violence stand contrasted with calm and tranquillity, where political and poetic interrogations meld with the documentary.
