Giulio Crisante, WE WERE MIAMI!

Preview

The tale of Pinetamare, from a whealty and clean NATO soldiers town to a Mafia controlled territory

The project is about a group of rappers living and struggling in Castelvolturno, a town in the “Land of fires”, in the province of Caserta, where the mafia, for years, illegally dumped waste and the cancer rates are significantly higher then the rest of Italy.
The rappers grow up in the Villaggio Coppola, the Castelvolturno marina, that in the 70s was called the Miami of Italy because the Nato soldiers were living there, the whole place was wealthy with skyscrapers and fancy hotels. But at the end of the 80s things start to fall a part, the government confiscated the private units to accomodate the earthquake victims, the house owners sell out within a few years and the mafia started to patronize the territory.
The rappers live with nostalgia but are trying to fight the state of abandon of the territory.
The rappers live with nostalgia but are trying to fight the state of abandon of the territory denouncing the lack of attention by the government, singing out stories of revolution.
My work aims to create a dialogue within the landscape and its protagonists. The frames are reproduced as covers of vinyls. A possible collection of songs about living in a land of abandon.
The rappers are sending out a message: we are here to fight, this is our land and we can rise from the ashes like the phoenix.
