The Fisheye Gallery, which opens this week, is dedicated to the young photography. Benoît Baume, managing editor of Fisheye and head of the gallery is committed “to defend a new generation of photographers who have little access to the market.”
Three group exhibitions per year will highlight five young talents around a theme. Each artist will present five numbered photographs ( five copies of each). The year will also be marked by individual exhibitions, meetings from artists around the photo book or around the challenges of contemporary photography.
Phillipe Grollier is the first to inaugurate the gallery with his Bonfires series. The “Bonfires” have figures as legends and recount a land of plural nouns. The “Bonfires”, made of wooden pallets and tires can be up to thirty meters high. They are built in Northern Ireland’s Protestant areas, to be destroyed under the eyes of Catholics. Philippe Grollier pursued, listed and photographed them with a large camera and put them in the center of his images.
