This Sunday, October 23rd, 2016, at 10:50PM,the French-German channel ARTE broadcasts Robert Doisneau, Rebel of the marvelous, by Clementine Deroudille. From unpublished archives, this film written and directed by the granddaughter of the photographer presents an intimate portrait of the man and the artist who happily mingled his family life and work to build an exemplary work.

Robert Doisneau, Rebel of the marvelous tells how this child of the Paris suburbs has become one of the most famous photographers in the world. Known by everyone, everywhere celebrated for photographs that became those of a world of yesterday, in black and white, from school children in short pants to the famous kiss of City Hall. The film also reveals a different Doisneau, his passion for color, which he tirelessly practiced, in photographing the new forms of architecture of modern suburbs. The photographer  photographed everything: Renault factories, the Venetian Ballroom, billionaires from Palm Springs, peasants of the USSR…

Arranged in  chapters with the drawings of Emmanuel Guibert, the documentary gives voice to his daughters, Annette Doisneau and Francine Deroudille, to some of his friends, the photographer Sabine Weiss, writer Daniel Pennac to personalities who wrote about his images such as Philippe Delerm and François Morel. From Paris to New York or Tokyo, it traces the exceptional, surprising and atypical career of a humanist, who never ceased to be a lifelong purveyor of happiness.
