Ivano Sabot, Hymns

Preview
From ancient times men have worn masks; they make it to acquire new identity, for religious purposes or simply for fun. At the down of history masks were believed to have magical powers, the man who wore them could become something else, even a God. In the Greek theatre just by wearing masks actors could turn themselves into anybody, kings, slaves, soldiers or heroes.
From this concept arise the photographic project “Hymns“. The artist Ivano Sabot, weaving together masks, silhouette, fabrics and lights intends to investigate trough surreal, at time grotesque images, his vision of the world the complexity of identity and the endless shades of life itself.
Masks ease telling the truth and revealing our true nature. Taking advantage of this freedom of expression, with a vast selection of materials, the artist deals with topics inspired by the surrounding environment, building with the evolution of his works a growing climax.
