PHotoESPAÑA: Pierre Molinier, Ce fut un homme sans moralité

Preview

Molinier, a master in the construction of stories, takes voyeurism to the extreme, and seeks his most intimate territory of creation through his own body.

Pierre Molinier’s work unveils a universe charged with sexuality and the exaltation of pleasure. A painter by trade and stemming from a working-class family, Molinier lived a life of transgression which he turned into the object of his artistic expression. His dissatisfaction towards his body and the fragmentation of his personality also featured prominently in his art. He was a friend of André Breton, and held several exhibitions in his time yet his work is practically unknown to the public.

The exhibition brings together approximately 40 photographs  from the Kamel Mennour gallery and two private collections, they reveal a heterodox aspect of sexuality governed by fetishism and cross-dressing. This selection of photographs and photomontages, dating back to the 1960s, sheds light on the ambiguity of sexual pleasure, with Molinier himself as a transvestite. Far distanced from the hypocritical moral code and traditional customs of their time, these images unravel an onanistic vision of sex through the use of various objects and accessories.
