Arles 2017 – Katharine Cooper, The Aleppo Spring

Preview

Voies Off is gathering independent initiatives flourishing outside of the Rencontres d’Arles. In 2107, the organizations are putting together 141 exhibitions and other photography events.

Aleppo My Love, or The Aleppo Spring, is the look Katharine Cooper has taken on this city in April 2017. Katharine Cooper talks to us about this territory, of which we learned through the media, of the effects of wartime, and of the displacement of populations. She talks about its people, its men and women, and takes us back to their zest for life and their resilience. With a caring and tender eye, the South African photographer recounts her love at first sight for Aleppo and its people. It is evidence that a civilization is not destroyed in the rhythm of its bombarded streets, but reborn. She portrays the pride, the determination, and the richness of those interviewed, with a poignant testimony full of hope.
